Booking Info

Hurkle Durkle Hut is a custom built A Frame cabin nestled in the woods in Preston, Northumberland. The hut is a separate accommodation to the Bunkhouse, although of course guests could book both together where available.

We have opened bookings for the hut from the 23rd of June 2025. The hut isn’t far off being complete in places and we will be able to share pictures with you soon.

Arrival/Departure days are Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays

The why?

In 2019 Kirsten moved to Preston to run The Joiners Shop Bunkhouse, and lives on site with partner Ross in the cottage at the front of the entire property. During Covid Kirsten decided to build an escape retreat, known as ‘the bell tent in the woods’,  which was a secluded woodland glamping experience beloved by many visitors. Fast forward to 2025 and we decided it was time to upgrade the bell tent experience to something more luxurious, year round and comfortable… Ross has designed and built the entire A Frame Cabin we have named Hurkle Durkle Hut. Hurkle Durkle is an ancient Scottish Term meaning to lounge around long after it’s time to be up and about. We thought this rather fitting, Ross being a Scotsman himself combined with how relaxing this space is to enjoy.

What can you expect?

The beautiful illustrations in the banner above, created by Alexandra Robertson of Inkwell Illustrations, gives you an idea of the hut and it’s immediate surroundings.

A beautiful woodland setting, birdsong all day and nature literally at your doorstep. The area is not fenced in so we ask guests to keep dogs close by. There is a firepit and a BBQ and a wood fired hot tub that more than comfortably sits 2 people. The hot tub also had LED lights and Hydro Bubbles!

Inside the hut there is a King Sized bed with luxury bedding, a table and chairs, a stove to keep you warm and cosy in the winter months and a kitchenette with 2 gas ring burners and an undercounter fridge/freezer.

On the large decking area we have sun loungers, and a table and chairs for dining alfresco. There is also a compost loo and a hot gas powered shower.

Although there is no fencing around the hut itself, there is a 6 ft fence to give you complete privacy from bunkhouse guests with a lock and a key for the gate and the hut accessible via a lockbox.

In the Autumn of 2025 we will be converting one of the buildings in the car park back into a loo/shower so that in the winter months hut users have a warm shower room to use and a flushing toilet. Unfortunately this conversion will not be complete in the summer of 2025 on opening, but from previous experience running a bell tent in this exact spot for 5 years guests love the outdoorsy shower in the summer months. Plus it is convenient for hopping out of the hot tub and into the hot shower, even in the winter months we expect this to be popular.

For more information please do not hesitate to get in touch. We appreciate that any bookings made at the moment until there are pictures available are ‘blind bookings’, whilst we can guarantee absolute luxury we have also made the cancellation timescale on the cabin more flexible than our usual 2 weeks to give you peace of mind on booking.

Thank you for reading and we hope to see you very soon!
