The Bunkhouse

Child Friendly

Dog friendly

The Joiner’s Shop Bunkhouse is nestled nicely in the wooded hamlet of Preston, at the bottom of the hill secluded from nearby abodes. The building dates back to the 1860s when it was a purpose-built Joiners Shop: eventually the cottage became a family dwelling and in the early 1990s the Workshop was converted into a bunkhouse, and here we have the birth of this magical place!

This is very much a traditional, get away from it all, bunkhouse. It is all thrills and no frills! It’s not shiny and modern but rustic, cosy and wholesome.

The Joiner’s Shop is a soulful resting place: whether you have been out walkingcyclingclimbingdiving or whether you want a relaxed space to have a get together with friends for a birthdayhen dostag dostudent holiday or a reunion. We have church groups stay with us, nature groups, school groups, activity groups, friends, families and workers. The space has been tried and tested for a variety of needs and occasions and has everything you need to have a good time.

LAYOUT

Downstairs

Downstairs is an open plan kitchen and living room area. The kitchen is fully equipped for all self-catering needs with a large table for group meals. The living room area has 5 comfy couches and a selection of games and DVDs. There is a small television and a multi-fuel stove that warms the whole of the downstairs floor keeping everyone cosy on a cold winter night.

Upstairs

Upstairs the dormitory sleeps 18 people in 1 double bed and 16 single bunks. The Pine bunks are the craftwork of traditional skilled joiners dating back to 1990, they are very study and spacious. There are 5 areas separated by 8ft partition walls for privacy. Two of the areas sleep five people, two sleep three people and there is a two bunk at the end of the corridor. Each section has an electric radiator, the radiators work on a coin meter that must be topped up in the reception area. The heating is inexpensive, and in the colder months guests are encouraged to bring hot water bottles and warm clothes. There are two heated electric showers and three loos upstairs as well.

Outside there is ample parking to the front of the bunkhouse and a private enclosed garden to the rear. The garden has a covered firepit area and a large oil drum BBQ. We also have a large barn on site that can be used respectfully.
